Palette from photo

Turn any photo into five matching colors. Copy the hex codes or CSS variables, then save a palette card.

Free. Your photo stays on your device.

Or drop a photo here.

How it works

  1. Pick a photo. Choose any JPG, PNG or WebP from your device.
  2. Get five colors. The biggest color groups in the picture become your palette, ordered from most to least common.
  3. Copy or save. Tap a swatch for its hex code, copy the whole set as CSS variables, or download a 1080 by 1350 palette card.

Where a photo palette helps

  • Pick brand colors for a small business that already match your shopfront or product photos.
  • Match slides, social posts and printables to one picture.
  • Build a mood board from a place, a meal or an outfit you love.

Questions

Does my photo get uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is read in your browser, the colors are worked out on your device, and the picture is never sent to a server.

How are the five colors chosen?

The tool groups every pixel into five clusters of similar color and takes the average of each cluster. The biggest cluster comes first, so the list runs from the most to the least common color in your photo.

What is the palette card?

A 1080 by 1350 PNG with your photo, the five swatches and their hex codes. It fits a portrait post or a mood board.

Can I use the CSS variables in a project?

Yes. Paste the copied block into your stylesheet and use var(--color-1) to var(--color-5) wherever you need a color.
