How to get a card that prints right
- Pick the size first. 85 x 55 mm is the European standard; 3.5 x 2 in is the US one. Layouts and margins follow your choice.
- Keep text inside the safe zone. The mint dashed line on the preview is the safe edge. Anything outside it risks being trimmed.
- Let colour run into the bleed. Backgrounds and bands here already extend past the trim line, so a slightly off cut shows colour, not white paper.
- Check the contrast. Body text should reach 4.5:1 against its background. The print check shows your lowest ratio.
- Print one first. Hold the proof at arm's length, scan the QR code with a phone, then print the sheet.

Questions
What size should a business card be?
In most of Europe the standard is 85 x 55 mm. In the US and Canada it is 3.5 x 2 inches (88.9 x 50.8 mm). Pick the size your printer or your market uses, and the layouts, safe zone and bleed adjust to it.
What are bleed and crop marks?
Bleed is background colour that runs 3 mm (0.125 in) past the cutting line so no white sliver shows if the blade drifts. Crop marks are small lines outside the bleed that show the printer exactly where to cut. The PNG download can include both.
What is the safe zone?
It is the margin inside the cutting line where text and QR codes should stay. This maker uses 4 mm on the 85 x 55 mm size and 0.15 in on the 3.5 x 2 in size, and the print check flags anything that crosses it.
Will the QR code scan once printed?
A QR code scans reliably when each square is about 0.4 mm or larger, the code is dark on a light plate and it has a clear border. The print check measures your square size and warns you when a contact-card QR is too dense for the size you chose.
How do I print the 10-up sheet?
Choose A4 or US Letter, press the print button and set the scale to actual size (100%) with fit-to-page off. Two cards across and five down fill the page, with crop marks in the margins to cut along. Print the front page, then the back page on the reverse.
Do my details leave my device?
No. The cards, the QR code and the PNG files are all made in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
Which file should I send to a print shop?
Download the PNG with bleed and crop marks turned on. It is 300 dpi at the full size including bleed. Ask the shop for their preferred file type and bleed size, and match the size and bleed settings here.
