What gets tidied before the comparison

    • Names: capital letters, apostrophes, ampersands, accents, a leading “The” and endings such as Ltd or LLC. Extra words such as a keyword added to the name are flagged.
    • Addresses: St and Street, Rd and Road, Ave and Avenue, Suite, Ste and #, North and N, state names and abbreviations, ordinals such as 5th and Fifth, and postal code formats.
    • Phones: brackets, dots, dashes, spaces, the country code, a leading zero and extensions.

Why a few differences are worth fixing

Customers, map apps and search engines all try to decide whether two listings describe the same business. The more your details agree, the easier that decision is. Our guide, why your business details must match everywhere, explains how and walks through a 15-minute routine. Questions

Does the checker send my business details anywhere?

No. Everything you type is compared on your own device and nothing is stored or sent. Close the page and the details are gone.

    What counts as a mismatch?

A different number, a different street, a different business name or a missing detail. Differences in capital letters, punctuation, St versus Street, Suite versus Ste and phone formatting are flagged as style only, because search engines read them as the same detail but they are still worth tidying.

How is the consistency score worked out?

Each listing is compared with the recommended version, field by field. Address counts for 40 percent, name and phone for 30 percent each. A match scores full marks, style-only differences lose a little, incomplete details lose more, and wrong or missing details score lowest.

How does the fix list decide what comes first?

By impact: how much each change lifts your score, weighted by how visible the listing is. A wrong phone number on your map listing comes before a capital letter on a directory.

Which listing should I treat as the master?

Use the one you control most closely, usually your website. The checker suggests the version most listings already agree on, and you can pick any listing as the master instead.
